We've all heard the phrase, "it's not what you know, it's who you know".
In our stratified society, often who we know is limited to those who are just like us. We spend our entire lives in siloed communities, interacting only with those that share our race, background, economic level, or beliefs.
Data tells us that you are seven times more likely to get a job with a company if you know someone there. Social capital is just as important on the journey to self-sufficiency as financial capital. That's why community development is a critical component of the Upstream Impact model.
As part of the program, you'll be placed in a small group with like-minded peers and Allies from the community in mutual mentorship. You'll also attend weekly "Family Gatherings", a large group meal and celebration of community that builds and bridges social capital. Every person who completes our program does so with 70 new relationships, guaranteed to create access across personal and professional networks and reweave the fabric of a frayed society.
