Jason Janz, Chief Executive Officer
Jason co-founded Upstream with Juan in 2012, influenced greatly by spending his childhood and adolescence in poverty. Jason's passion for social entrepreneurship and serving the poor is satisfied through his role as CEO where he builds our staff team, sets the organizational culture, and raises funds. When he is not working, Jason enjoys bike riding and hanging out with his wife and four boys.
Juan Pena, Chief Programs Officer
Juan received his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts and his Master of Divinity from Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, P.A. While attending seminary, Juan worked as an engineer and planted a multiethnic, socio-economically diverse church in the Poconos. In 2008, he moved to Denver to be a part of the elder team at Providence Bible Church. He is now the Chief Program Officer of Upstream Impact, and is passionate about helping Denver families escape poverty and pursue their dreams through career and community development. When he’s not working, Juan enjoys spending time with his wife and four boys, cheering for the Patriots, and loving his Clayton neighbors.
Helen Kaminski, Chief Operations Officer
Helen joined the Upstream staff in 2017 after working as a corporate and securities lawyer for 26 years. Helen's passion for problem solving, improving the efficiency of processes and working for a mission-oriented organization is satisfied through her role as Chief Operating Officer and Director of HR & Administration, where she is responsible for developing and implementing plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to support the organization's growth objectives. When she's not working, Helen enjoys exploring Colorado’s great outdoors (hiking, biking and skiing), traveling the world, attending live musical/theatrical performances, and investing in meaningful relationships.
Helen currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of Upstream Impact. She previously worked as legal counsel to The WhiteWave Foods Company from January 2013 to May 2017, most recently as Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel; as legal counsel to The Hillshire Brands Company (fka Sara Lee Corporation) from 2002 to 2012, most recently as Deputy General Counsel, Corporate and Compliance; and as a partner in a Chicago law firm. Helen has served on the board of several nonprofits, including Breakthrough Urban Ministries and Cabrini Green Legal Aid, and served in various roles in her church. She has a law degree and an bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Michigan.
Leslie Gamel Curley
Leslie is an architect and principal of Eco-ARCH, LLC, an architecture firm based in Aspen, Colorado.
Leslie’s family helped found Upstream Impact, and she also serves on the Board of Colorado UpLift and Les Dames D’Aspen. Leslie lives in Aspen, Colorado with her son and daughter.
Kia is the founder and owner of Lovely Sweep, a house cleaning and organizing business based in Denver. Kia is a 2014 graduate of the Upstream program, which helped her launch her business, and she has served as an ally to another Leader in the program. Kia lives in Denver, Colorado with her two sons and two daughters.
